Matthew Faha

Lieutenant Commander, United States Coast Guard

 Lieutenant Commander Matt Faha is a key member of the team leading U.S. efforts for enhancing vessel cyber risk management guidelines at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). He is also leading domestic cyber regulations and policy development for U.S. vessels. LCDR Faha
began his assignment to CG-ENG in 2019 and has worked on a wide array of IMO initiatives in the time since.

LCDR Faha has worked in conjunction with U.S. National Research Laboratories to further maritime cybersecurity training and workforce development efforts. He has served as an advisor to cadet research initiatives through the National labs, where he provided technical advice
and regulatory guidance. He was also instrumental to the creation of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Marine Transportation System Cybersecurity Postgraduate School Program.

His previous experience includes working as a Coast Guard marine inspector, a port state control examiner, and as an engineer on U.S. Coast Guard vessels. He holds master’s degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering as well as Industrial and Operations Engineering from the
University of Michigan. Additionally, he completed a bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and holds a professional engineering license.
